The Stephen Lewis Foundation
This past Christmas CBS made a substantial donation to the Stephen Lewis Foundation. This group is committed to making a difference for women and children living with the AIDS pandemic in sub-Saharan Africa. The Stephen Lewis Foundation is committed to grassroots efforts in the communities that are directly affected. The money they give to these community groups goes towards easing the suffering of women with AIDS and the orphans who are left behind.
Ilana Landsberg-Lewis, Stephen's daughter and a former UN human rights lawyer, came to speak to us at the CBS Toronto offices. Her stories of devastation and the abject poverty these communities are living with were heart wrenching. The community support and successes she was also able to share gave an indication of how much the money donated could do for the families and individuals they work with.
